Messi named Best Player in Europe ahead of Ronaldo, Suarez

Barcelona’s superstar, Lionel Messi, has won the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award, beating his team-mate Luis Suarez and perennial rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, to the prize.

The Argentina captain was a vital part of the Barca team, that won the Champions League, Copa del Rey and La Liga last season, forming a fearsome attack trident with Suarez and Neymar.

Messi finished level on goals with Ronaldo and Neymar in Europe in the 2014/2015 campaign – all three men scored 10 times.

In all, the 28-year-old netted 62 goals in 67 games in all competitions for club and country
