The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has assured Nigerians who will be travelling for the Christmas festivity that the association will not increase the cost of transportation during the period.

The president of the association, Chief Musa Isewele gave the assurance when he addressed newsmen in Abuja yesterday.
He said the association would also enhance security in the various motor parks across the nation throughout the period to ensure the safety of passengers.
He said, “we have also constituted a task force, which will go round the parks, any driver who has taken any ogogoro (local gin) will not be allowed to drive. His passengers will be transferred to another bus.”
He said the association was making arrangement to deploy 300 high capacity buses in Abuja and other states of the federation to ease transportation problems being encountered by Nigerians during such period.
Isewele told the newsmen his union was equally discussing with foreign partners on the building of mass houses for its members to make life more meaningful for them.
Speaking on the devaluation of the naira, the RTEAN boss said, just like every other sector the new policy would affect the transport policy but expressed confidence in the ability of the federal government to handle the situation.
He said, “this is one of the reasons why we have been saying we should build vehicle assembly plants here in Nigeria. If we are to buy made in Nigeria vehicles, no matter how much the exchange rate is, it will not affect us that much. We need to support the federal government in its drive for made in Nigeria products.”
